Few months back i wrote an article about The Cloud Engineer Bootcamp from CNCF. I did a deep analysis of the content, prices and tried to answer the question “Is it worth it”. Make sure to read that article first to follow the logic .This article is a quick review and will not go too much into details.

The Linux Foundation release a new career track called Cloud Developer. This is not a certification per-se but more a collection of online courses and certifications that are bundled and ordered in a logical way to accommodate gradual learning.

Content

The track contains 5 courses and 1 certification.

Courses:

  • Beginners Guide to OSS Dev (LFD102).
  • Intro to Open Source Development (LFD201).
  • Containers for Developers (LFD254)
  • DevOps and SRE fundamentals (LFS261).
  • Kubernetes for Developers (LFD259).

Certifications:

  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD).

Cost

The bundle cost 1496$ retail, which is simply the total of each course and exam. Here is the breakdown

  • Beginners Guide to OSS Dev (LFD102). Free
  • Intro to Open Source Development (LFD201). 299$
  • Containers for Developers (LFD254). 299$
  • DevOps and SRE fundamentals (LFS261). 299$
  • Kubernetes for Developers (LFD259). 299$
  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD). 300$

But you don’t have to spend that much money on the bundle, The linux foundation offers promotions very often (this bundle had a promotion until August 25th for 349$, sorry for the delay ^^). You can sign up to receive news about discounts at the bottom of this page.

Is it worth it ?

I didn’t take this track since i’m pretty familiar with most of the content already, but like i wrote in my previous article about the Cloud Engineer Bootcamp it depends on your career and learning goals, with a nice discount this track could worth a lot (specially the previous 349$ for the entire bundle) and the content is quite diversified and rich. If you took this track or you are learning now using it, please DM me on twitter.com/boredabdel i’m happy to hear your thoughts.
